Charles Swencionis received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1978. He cofounded the Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology (Health Emphasis) at Ferkauf and Einstein with Dr. Gilbert Levin. He has served as the chair of the American Psychological Association's Continuing Education Committee, and the Education and Training Committee of its Division of Health Psychology. He was a participant in the American Psychological Association Arden House conference on Education and Training in Health Psychology. He did two postdoctoral fellowships, at Langley-Porter Institute, University of California, San Francisco, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. He is Associate Professor of Psychology at Ferkauf and Associate Professor of Epidemiology/Population Health and Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He supervises the Obesity Treatment Service of the Parnes Clinic at Ferkauf.
His current research includes perception of hunger and satiety in obesity treatment, obesity treatment in cardiovascular risk; quality of life in obesity treatment; self efficacy in obesity treatment; and features of eating disorders.
Milton Rosenbaum Award for postdoctoral research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry; American Medical Writers Association, Medical Book Award, 1998 for The Complete Weight Loss Workbook; Master Teaching Paper of the Decade, Cardiovascular Reviews & Reports (with William Frishman, Andrew Razin, & Edmund Sonnenblick), awarded 1992.
