Dr. Irit Felsen, adjunct professor at , is co-chair of the Trauma Working Group in the . The NGO Committee works with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, according to Dr. Felsen, 鈥渢o ensure the inclusion of mental health issues within a broader context of concerns such as vulnerable populations, human rights, poverty, violence, the environment, peace, and well-being.鈥
Dr. Felsen helped plan the annual trauma group program scheduled for the February 27, 2020, meeting of the NGO Committee. The meeting was open to people outside the UN and interested students and faculty were strongly encouraged to attend.
Dr. Holly K. Shaw, RN, who is the chair of the NGO Committee on Mental Health, gave the welcoming remarks, and Dr. Felsen moderated a panel discussion on 鈥淭rauma-Informed Mental Health Care in a Shifting Socio-Political Environment鈥 with discussants Dr. Carol Tosoni, LCSW, professor and director of the DSW Program in Clinical Social Work at New York University鈥檚 Silver School of Social Work; Dr. Dana Alonzo, director of the Fordham University Suicide Prevention Research Program at the Graduate School of Social Services; and Sepi Djavaheri, Community Mobilizer at the UJA Federation of New York.
