The New York Regional Center for Diabetes Translation Research (NY-CDTR) has received a five-year renewal grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Much of the center鈥檚 work is directed to its surrounding urban area, whose population has high rates of diabetes and healthcare disparities. 鈥淭he grant will allow the center to continue to focus on translational interventions that can be sustainably implemented in diverse healthcare and community settings,鈥 said center director and the grant鈥檚 PI, Jeffrey Gonzalez, PhD. 鈥淲e will focus on interventions that target diabetes prevention and improved management to reduce health inequities for ethnic/racial minorities, the poor and disadvantaged, and other marginalized groups.鈥
The grant will support many aspects of the center鈥檚 operations, including its cutting-edge research cores. 鈥淲e have developed and refined four translational research cores that furnish the infrastructural bedrock of the NY-CDTR: The Behavioral Science and Technology Core, the Life Course Methodology Core, the Population Health and Health Systems Core, and the Latino Network for Diabetes Translation Research, which is a national resource core involving investigator members across the nation,鈥 said Dr. Gonzalez. The grant will also allow the center to offer an enrichment program of external and internal seminars, podcasts, and faculty/trainee conferences; a pilot and feasibility grant program; and educational programs for diabetes translational investigators researching health equity. 鈥A wealth of resources is available to member investigators,鈥 Dr. Gonzalez said.
