YU librarians were a vital presence at the Association of Jewish Libraries annual conference, held at Hebrew Union College in New York in June.  Shulamis Hes, Electronic Resources and Reference Librarian, served on the Conference Committee.  Shulamith Berger, Curator of Special Collections and Hebraica-Judaica, as part of the session Yiddish Literature in Translation, offered a "Case Study on Joseph Opatoshu," author of the 1919 novel Hebrew.  Avrom Shuchatowitz, Catalog Librarian, presented "The Ladino Collection at 麻豆区."  Also focusing on unique materials held by the Libraries was Deena Schwimmer, who spoke on "Hungarian Materials at YU: The Zoltan Erenyi Memorial Collection."  And Marlene Schiffman, Catalog Librarian, discussed rare books in the University Libraries from London collector Berthold Baruch Strauss. For a post-conference tour, Paul Glassman, Director of University Libraries and Adjunct Instructor of Architectural History and Design, led visits to synagogues of New York's Upper East Side, including Park East Synagogue, Fifth Avenue Synagogue, Congregation Beit Edmond, and Temple Emanu-El.
