The Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies, in partnership with YU Global, invites you to a lecture by Dr. Youde Fu: Hebrew Prophets and Confucian Sages: A Comparison
This lecture will examine similarities and differences between the Hebrew prophets and Confucian sages in their roles as recipients and transmitters of their respective traditions’ ultimate laws and principles.
Dr. Fu is founder and director of the Center for Judaic and Inter-Religious Studies of Shandong University, one of the key research institutes of humanities and social sciences in the People’s Republic of China, and the founder and chairman of the Department of Religious Studies of Shandong University. He is Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor, vice-chairman of the Philosophy Teaching Commission of the Ministry of Education of China, and Vice-President of the China Society of Religion. Dr. Fu has studied and worked as a student or visiting academic in various universities in Europe, Israel, the United States, Canada, and Australia, and has published extensively on ancient and modern Jewish philosophy. He has also translated or edited the translations of many major works of Jewish thought into Chinese, including Maimonides’ Guide for the Perplexed. His main research interests include Jewish religion and thought, comparative religion and philosophy, and the history of western philosophy. He is the former dean of the School of Philosophy and Sociology at Shandong University, vice-chairman of its Academic Commission, and chairman of its Academic Commission of Humanities.
