Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year. It is a time for forgiveness, when the slate is wiped clean to enable a fresh start for the New Year. Among other things, we fast, don’t wear leather shoes and confess our sins to demonstrate we are penitent and recognize the majesty of G-d and the occasion. Cleansed of sins, we resemble the angels and are dressed in white to emphasize our dedication to remaining that way. We have faith that, with G-d’s grace, there will be a good outcome. We are given a chance to do better in the New Year and for that we are exceedingly grateful. Yom Kippur is, therefore, a joyous holiday and we celebrate our deliverance.
